Why Study Horticulture in South Australia?
There are many reasons to pursue studying Horticulture in South Australia. The recent Agri-food Workforce Consultation Paper (20/10/2008) has highlighted the need for skilled workers in the Agri-food industry. This paper estimates that because of new opportunities stimulated by major projects within the State, and the need to replace workers leaving the workforce due to retirement and other factors, there will be 339,000 job openings over the next decade. Adelaide has particular advantages for Horticulture students, as the Adelaide plains offer a diverse range of environments for protected farming and a range of field crops. It is the
highest density protected cropping area in Australia.
